LTC New Business Checklist

If you want to get paid quickly and without hassle, make sure all these things are in order before taking an app and submitting a new piece of business.

Current National Partnership Certification — including your 8-hour and 4-hour refresher course (24 months after the effective date of the initial 8-hour course). If you are in one of the original Partnership states (CA, CT, IN and NY) they require specific classroom training.

  1. Current health license — The license is needed where the client resides, not where you reside.
  2. Contracted with the carrier — Is everything current?
  3. Checked with an SMS LTC Marketer before taking an application — We’ll let you know if everything is in good order and you’re ready to sell.
  4. Pre-Underwrite — Consult with an SMS LTC expert on the health of your client and we’ll provide applicable illustrations and offer guidance on which carrier to submit to use.
  5. Submit all New Business to SMS — We will review the app for accuracy and completeness, and we’ll provide weekly status updates once it goes to the carrier.

Failure to complete any of these steps could result in you having to go back to the client to complete a new app or could increase the chances that the application will get denied. Either way you won’t look good to the client and you won’t get paid as quickly, if at all.
